Summer in a cup! This refreshing grapefruit Paloma cocktail is the perfect sipper for those hot sunny days.
This delicious cocktail has all the ingredients of a quintessential summer drink. It’s fruity, refreshing, made with beautiful fresh ingredients, and is based with tequila!
I’ve been perfecting this refreshing grapefruit Paloma cocktail over the past couple of months – lots of trial and error (lucky me and my husband). Make sure to read the ‘Other Notes’ at the bottom of this post for a few key strategies that make a big difference in the overall taste of this beauty.
You’ll Need:
- 1.5 ounces Tequila Blanco
- Juice from two grapefruit
- Juice from one lime
- large block ice
- A splash of grapefruit-flavoured sparkling water or grapefruit kombucha
Rim:
- Flaky sea salt
- grapefruit zest
Garnish:
- Rosemary Sprig
- One slice of grapefruit
Glass:
- wide-mouth highball glass or stemless red wine glass
Directions:
- Zest your grapefruit and mix with sea salt.
- Rim glass. You can use a bit of agave nectar, honey or juice from a lime.
- Juice grapefruit and lime into a liquid measuring cup.
- Put your ice into your glass.
- Add in tequila.
- Pour juice mixture into glass and top with a splash or two of sparkling water or grapefruit kombucha.
- Give it a stir!
- Add in your grapefruit slice and rosemary sprig garnish.
- Cheers!
Other Notes:
- Zest your grapefruit and let dry for a few hours or overnight before you mix with the sea salt. Not essential but I find this makes the rimmer less messy and therefore more aesthetically pleasing for presentation.
- When rimming your glass, only put your rimmer on one small portion of one side of the glass. Again – points for presentation.
- Juice the fruit into a measuring cup first as opposed to straight into the glass. Way less messy.
- Use big block ice instead of cubes. Easier to drink and looks cooler.
- Be sure to only use a splash or two of sparkling water or Kombucha. Too much will drastically change the overall taste.
- Make sure you stir this before you sip! Missing this step is crucial to the taste of the drink.
- Gently push your rosemary sprig into the glass so it’s not sticking out the top and hitting you in the face. LOL!
